Kansas City Fashion Week Returns to Union Station

Kansas City is about to get a little more stylish. Kansas City Fashion Week returns to Union Station March 21–28, bringing a week of creativity, energy, and incredible design to Downtown.

Founded by Teisha Marie Barber, President and CEO of Kansas City Fashion Week, the event was created to fill a gap in the local fashion industry and give regional designers a professional runway to showcase their work. What started fourteen years ago with one show has grown into one of the Midwest’s premier fashion events. This season marks the 28th runway show, held twice each year.

Designers from across the country and around the world will present their collections while teams of stylists, makeup artists, photographers, and models collaborate to create a true runway experience. Buyers, media personalities, and fashion entrepreneurs all attend, which makes it an exciting night out for anyone who loves creativity and style.

Did you know Kansas City was once one of the fashion capitals of the United States?

From the 1930s through the 1970s, Kansas City’s downtown Garment District ranked second only to New York City in clothing manufacturing. At its peak, nearly 80 manufacturers operated between 6th and 11th Streets, employing thousands of workers. By the mid-20th century, one in seven American women was wearing clothing made right here in Kansas City.

Today that history still lives on in the Garment District, where many of the old factories have been converted into lofts and creative spaces. Kansas City Fashion Week continues that legacy by showcasing the next generation of designers and artists.

I have always loved fashion. The styles, the handbags, the shoes. I love it all! Last September I had the incredible opportunity to be in Paris with my daughter during Fashion Week, which was an unforgettable experience. That is why it has been so fun to learn about Kansas City’s own fashion history and to see that same excitement for fashion happening right here in our city.

If you are looking for a unique night out, this is a great event to experience.
